What is Coral Bleaching?

The Beautiful Colors that we Associate With color are actually algae called zooxanthellae. This algae not only provides them with their stunning look, but also allows them to have a steady food sources through photosynthesis.

However, when the corals get stressed from factors such as heat and pollution, they shoot out of all the zooxanthellae algae and what is left is a white calcium carbonate skeleton.
